Premier Notley touts government action in 2017 look-back

Premier Rachel Notley believes her government is on the right track and so is the province.

Notley made the comments during her year end interview with CityNews and 660 NEWS.

The premier called 2017 a year of progress, and a year of turning the corner.

“We’ve seen tens of thousands of jobs being created, we’re seeing manufacturing is up, capital investment is up, retail sales are up, business confidence is up, consumer confidence is up,” she said.

But she argued there is still work to be done.

“To keep those important public services that all Albertans rely on secure and safe, and to work on making life more affordable for working families,” she said.

She also insisted the deficit will come down and the province still plans to get to a balanced budget by 2023.

“We are not going to do what the opposition suggests is reasonable, which is make a wholesale 20 per cent cut and then watch as families across this province suffer,” said Notley.

Notley thought this was a fairly good year in terms of Alberta’s relationship with the federal government, but she admitted there has been tension with our neighbours.

“Obviously, we don’t agree with the position of the B.C. government on Kinder Morgan, but at the same time what we are going to do, is we are going to go into B.C., we’re going to continue to make the case for why it is the right decision,” she explained, adding the opposition there is becoming more muted and people are understanding the economic case for the project.
