Seniors in the region encouraged to stay active

Seniors in the region looking to stay active have the support of Alberta Health Services.

The Walk On program, which is offered throughout the AHS North Zone, brings seniors together to walk on an indoor track at their own pace, helping to build muscle and flexibility, reducing the odds of falling or injury.

Any form of physical activity is beneficial and has been shown to play a huge role in preventing cancer, heart disease and managing or preventing diabetes.

Thanks to a partnership with Suncor Community Leisure Centre through MacDonald Island Park, St. Aidan’s Society and the Golden Years Society, AHS is able to offer the program for free for seniors 55 and over.

AHS has also partnered with Nexen Anzac Recreation Centre to launch the program in Anzac.

The Walk On program runs Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30 at the running track at MacDonald Island Park and the Anzac Recreation Centre.

Free bus transportation is available to MacDonald Island through the Golden Years Society.
