Tuesday’s special council meeting will be a busy one with plenty of new business to tend to.

The 2018-2021 Strategic Plan and 2017 Wildfire Mitigation Strategy are among topics.

The Municipal Management Team has reviewed the previous strategic plan and the organization’s vision, mission and values and identified potential strategic priorities.

Four key strategic priorities include:

  • Responsible government
  • Downtown revitalization
  • Regional economic development
  • Rural and Indigenous communities and partnerships

The proposed plan outlines the steps the municipality will need to take, as well as indicators to measure the plan’s success.

Council will also introduce the proposed 2017 Wildfire Mitigation Strategy, an update from the first strategy which was created in 2010.

The strategy includes 15 updated recommendations from vegetation management to training RMWB Emergency Services to provide FireSmart Hazard Assessments.

A presentation from the Advisory Committee on Aging is also scheduled.

The committee is asking for a letter from Mayor Scott and council to show continued support of becoming an Age Friendly Region according to the World Health Organization.

The RMWB’s membership in the Global Network of Age Friendly Communities expires Mar. 1.

A report to bid for the municipality to host the Canada 55+ Games is the final order on the agenda.

The municipality would be responsible for the cost of the bid process, and if successful, the staging of the Games.

Initial feedback from stakeholders identifies several benefits including boosting tourism and local economy.

The full agenda can be found here and the meeting can be live streamed Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. here.
