In an effort to apologize for the Sixties Scoop in a meaningful way the Alberta Government is hosting six engagement sessions province-wide.
The government is working with the Sixties Scoop Indigenous Society of Alberta to gain a deeper understanding of how people’s lives were affected.
Engagement sessions will allow survivors a chance to tell their stories and allow others to learn more about a time when Indigenous children were taken away from their parents and communities by child intervention services and placed with mostly non-Indigenous families.
Sessions will start with a cultural ceremony, smudge and prayers and will close with sharing circles led by a facilitator.
A free session will be held in Fort McMurray on Feb. 7th.
