Local motorists will be braving the elements on off-highway vehicles (OHVs) to raise money for a local firefighter.

Wacey Morrison suffered a back and spinal cord injury in May 2017 that has left him paralyzed, he has been accepted into a stem cell treatment facility in Panama City, Panama.

Morrison needs $46,000 for the treatment.

Mike Haberoth, event organizer, said when he heard about Morris’ medical costs he wanted to help someone who has given a lot back to our community.

“Being a fellow firefighter, I feel the same in brotherhood with him. My wife is also a nurse at the hospital. With the amount of stuff that’s out there – and that we both see first-hand, it’s often the things that are right in front of us that are overlooked,” said Haberoth. “It’s a small thing to do for someone who does so much for others.”

Three people will be driving motorcycles and two will be in trucks, the first annual Ice Road Expedition will travel from Fort McMurray to Fort Smith from Feb. 21 to 23, staying one night in Fort Chipewyan and one night in Fort Smith.

You can follow Ride North Moto for their journey to Fort Smith.

Donations can be made directly to Morrison’s GoFundMe page.
