The provincial government is providing up to $8.9 million to Carillion Canada to continue highway maintenance.

Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation, Brian Mason, said the money will help keep Alberta highways safe.

“This funding ensures that snowplowing, sanding and other maintenance will continue on all of our highways. It also means Carillion’s employees and suppliers will continue to be paid.”

Carillion PLC, the parent company of Carillion Canada, went into receivership at the beginning of January.

The Canadian division of the construction company was granted protection from creditors under the Companies’ Creditor Arrangement Act.

Carillion Canada maintains approximately 43 per cent of highways throughout the province including Highway 63.

The support will help maintain the company’s operations until April 30, 2018.
