A new service in town is looking to prevent impaired driving in the region.

First Choice Designated Driver Service is a family-owned business with locations in Regina, Saskatoon and now Fort McMurray.

The service sends two drivers in one vehicle. One to bring your vehicle home, and the other to follow.

Trisha Lolacher, manager of the Fort McMurray location said shift work in the region creates a need for the service every day of the week.

“Rather than have people take the risk we wanted to make sure to get out there.”

Lolacher said opening the original branch in Regina in 2010 was very personal for her mom and step-dad, as her brother was a victim of a drunk driver in 1989.

In only three weeks of service, Lolacher said they’ve received a steady amount of calls and have gotten at least 30 people home safely.

The second driver also plays the role of witness in case of an accident or other type of incident.

Rates for the service start as low as $20.
