Gregoire Lake Provincial Park could open in May

Gregoire Lake Provincial Park is expected to open in time for the May long weekend.

The park has been closed since the 2016 wildfire, which caused significant damage.

Alberta Environment and Parks continues to work on the park and has completed several improvements.

Improvements include:

  • All campsites now have 30 amp electrical services, with 2 loops also having water at the individual sites.
  • All public buildings in the park have been re-roofed and fire damaged facilities repaired.
  • Roads have been repaved and widened to improve safety, as well as the addition of an emergency exit road.
  • Increased parking capacity at the day use area.
  • Added gazebos.
  • Improved some trails and paths.
  • Completed an extensive hazardous tree removal program.

There are still multiple projects that are in progress, including a new central building that will be a park office, convenience store, shower and laundry facility.

Opening day ultimately depends on the weather.
