A 60-year-old Fort McMurray man has been arrested and faces two counts each of possessing and accessing child pornography.

Henry Victor Haineault, who was an employee of Alberta Children’s Services, was arrested on April 11 in Leduc.

His previous employer, the Athabasca Tribal Council Child and Family Services, reported concerning images on a USB drive in Nov. 2017.

Cpl. Cameron Dunn of ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit said no contact offences were revealed in any of the searches, but Haineault’s employment raises concern.

“Mr. Haineault’s employment and potential access to children certainly increased concern we have in cases like this.”

He said that although they’re only aware of possession and accessing offences, Haineault’s direct contact with children means there are potential victims.

The man’s work computers and devices were seized in January by ICE forensic technicians who found thousands of photos.

After working for the Athabasca Tribal Council Child and Family Services, Haineault was an employee of the Children’s Services office in High Level. He was immediately placed on administrative suspension when police received the complaint.
