Waypoints will open and operate a Child and Youth Advocacy Centre for our region later this year.

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) and Wood Buffalo RCMP proposed the idea, which passed unanimously, at a board meeting on Mar. 15.

Waypoints Executive Director, Michele Taylor said the centre will be welcoming and effective for children and youth who have experienced various types of abuse or trauma.

“Waypoints is looking forward to strengthening our partnership with the Wood Buffalo RCMP,
Northeast Alberta Children’s Services and the RMWB to offer a seamless set of supports in a central,
child and youth friendly location.

Cliff Dimm, Waypoints’ Board President said the centre’s services fall directly within the vision and purpose of the social profit organization.

The Child and Youth Advocacy Centre would be located downtown and should be open by the end of September.
