Controlled burning begins in the region

Controlled burns will be done across the region as a part of the annual efforts to reduce the risk of wildfire.

Regional Emergency Services (RES) crews are trained to burn the dead and dry fuels that accumulate over the winter to help reduce the intensity and spread of wildfire.

The burns will be done in strategic areas throughout the region causing fire and smoke to be visible. If unexpected emotional triggers arise, or you have any concern there are wellness resources here.

Those who live in an area near a controlled burn are reminded to keep windows and doors closed.

Areas where RES is conducting burns should also be avoided to allow crews to safely do their work.

Never attempt a controlled burn on your own. This work can only be done by trained professionals.
