Edmonton man facing drug possession charge

One manĀ is being charged with possession after attempting to avoid police.

According to the Wood Buffalo RCMP they were conducting patrols in Timberlea on April 27, when they noticed a driver acting suspicious, committing traffic infraction and trying to evade police.

The man was arrested after lying about his identity.

Following the arrest, officers found 8.8 grams of individually wrapped drugs that they believed to be crack cocaine.

Shaun Wimpney is being charged with obstruction and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

RCMP members also learned that Wimpney was wanted by the Edmonton Police Service for nine outstanding charges, seven of which were related to firearms.

Wimpney will remain in police custody until his court appearance on May 8.
