The Wood Buffalo RCMP has announced their annual policing priorities.

“I thank residents for taking the opportunity to weigh in on the policing priorities in our community,” said Superintendent Lorna Dicks. “Based on public feedback, our focus this year will be on traffic safety, crime reduction, domestic violence and drugs.”

After seeing public input in March, the RCMP identified four main priorities with several objectives which include the following:

Traffic Safety

  • Increase impaired driving charges
  • Increase patrols to support school zone enforcement
  • Increase Standard Field Sobriety Training

Crime Reduction

  • Increase compliance checks for habitual offenders
  • Increase community and school engagement
  • Establish one citizen lead Rural Crime Watch in the rural communities

Domestic Violence

  • Provide educational community presentations
  • Continual monitoring of domestic violence offenders on high risk domestic violence files

Drugs

  • Increase drug trafficking charges
  • Provide educational community presentations for drug awareness and prevention
