Registration for the annual heavy item pickup program is open from May 22 until May 28 at 8 a.m.
The program allows residents of Fort McMurray to easily and conveniently dispose of heavy items such as couches, chairs, mattresses, dressers, stoves, dishwashers, washers, dryers, televisions and refrigerators.
Each household can register a maximum of four items that must be at the curb or roadside by 8 a.m. on the assigned pickup day, which will be between June 4 and 8.
Mattresses and box springs are subject to a $20 fee, per piece, for disposal and refrigerant gas removal is required for refrigerators with a $42.90 fee.
Any unit that has refrigerant gas removed prior to pick up needs a certificate from the specialist who removed it as the gas is classified as a hazardous waste.
