UPDATE: Wildfire south of Janvier 70% contained

Alberta Wildfire is reporting that the fire south of Janvier is 70 per cent contained.

The blaze that broke out on Wednesday is still considered ‘out of control’ and has burned about 250 hectares.

Six helicopters are working to put out hot spots, while firefighters are working to secure the fire guard.

In an update on Thursday night, Alberta Wildfire said the community of Janvier/ Chard are not immediately threatened.

No evacuation order has been issued, but the RMWB is suggesting residents be prepared in case something changes.

Alberta Health Services and Environment Canada have issued air quality statements for the region, you are advised to minimize physical activities outdoors, keep windows, doors and air circulation closed and monitor your symptoms.
