Premier Rachel Notley took a trip to Fort McMurray on Thursday to speak with workers at the Oil Sands Discovery Centre.

In her speech, she spoke about the importance of getting pipelines built and what Ottawa’s recent Trans Mountain pipeline project purchase could mean to the city.

Notley told the crowd the pipeline dispute isn’t about government or politicians — it’s about hard-working people across the province.

“We’re fighting for your jobs, for your resources, and the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of hard-working people here in Fort McMurray, across Alberta and across Canada,” Notley said.

Notley spoke about the vital role Fort McMurray plays in the province’s oil and gas sector.

“One of the things I am most proud of is how we’ve been able to show people the tremendous value of the work that happens here in Fort McMurray,” Notley said. “Your work benefits all Canadians.”

She also told the audience that Alberta would not pay a cent until the shiny new taps are running
