Two Father Mercredi Trappers will make the jump to Junior Football for the 2018/19 season.

Connor Czibere and Ernie Fidder have both signed on to play with the Edmonton Huskies Football Club of the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL).

Trapper’s Head Coach, Kevin Garbuio said they are doing all the little things and are being rewarded.

“Ernie Fidder is a great leader in our school and Connor Czibere is a great ambassador over at Bill Woodward. It is good to see those two gentleman turning into fine adults.”

Fidder is a 6’4″, 210 lbs defensive end and was awarded Trapper of the Year.

“Ernie himself is kind of a late bloomer and this year was big for him, he finally grew into his body. Someone with a length like him, he’s going to be a really special player for the Huskies for probably the next five years,” said Garbuio.

Czibere stands at a monstrous 6’4″, 290 lbs, is an offensive tackle for the Trappers, and was awarded Outstanding Lineman of the Year.

“Connor (Czibere) came out this season to play for us and just watching him come in, he is just a natural talent, he has only been playing football for one year,” said Garbuio “For one year of football he has a bright future ahead of himself.”

Garbuio said the biggest challenge for the players moving up a level will be the speed of the game and level of skill.

“There is going to be a steep learning curve at the start, but I know those two and they’re resilient they are going to be able to persevere through that little adversity at the start. The Huskies got two great adults, two great people coming to play for them not just football players,” said Garbuio.

Czibere and Fidder join former Trapper, Carter Carlson on the Huskies and Garbuio adds that seven players so far have committed to a post-secondary program next year.
