FMPSD teacher wins Edwin Parr Award

A teacher from the Fort McMurray Public School District (FMPSD) has won the coveted Edwin Parr Award from the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA).

The award is given to six outstanding first-year teachers across the province.

Thania Breitkreuz, who teaches grade four at Walter and Gladys Hill Public School, said she’s honoured to receive the award.

“Becoming a teacher was always one of my dreams, but I never dreamed of an achievement of this magnitude this early in my career,”

Breitkreuz said she is humbled and that the achievement is marked by those who have contributed to her success.

Board Chair Linda Mywaart praised her hard work, innovative teaching and devotionto her students.

This is the second year in a row a recipient from Fort McMurray Public School District has won the award.

Last year, Kristen Craig of Ecole Dickinsfield won the award.
