Big Bin Event allows large household items to be disposed safely

Large household items can be disposed at one of the annual Big Bin Events beginning on Saturday, June 9.

Items that cannot be set out for regular waste collection such as large furniture, appliances, renovation materials and yard waste will be able to be disposed of, free of charge.  Electronic waste such as computers, televisions and other electronics can also be dropped off for recycling and household hazardous waste such as used oil, paints and batteries can be environmentally friendly disposed. Commercial, construction and animal waste will not be accepted at these events.

Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and water coolers will be subject to a $42.90 fee for CFC removal and mattresses and box springs are subject to a $20 fee (per piece) for disposal.  Photo Identification and proof of address will be required before depositing any of these items, which will be picked up during the Heavy Item Pickup program. Proper identification will enable the fees to be added to monthly utility bills.

All Big Bin Events take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
