The Rotary District 5370 Charitable Foundation – Fort McMurray Fire Relief Fund has donated $143,500 to advance infant care in our region.

The money will help the Maternal/Child Ward of the Northern Lights Regional Health Care Centre replace the infant warmer and resuscitation units that are used by every newborn at the hospital.

Cindy Amerongen, executive director of the health foundation said they plan to replace all 11 of the units currently in use with Panda iRes Baby Warmer units.

“This is a very costly replacement valued at approximately $400,000 and is taken with great care and selection of the best technology available.”

All newborns are placed in the unit for weighing, monitoring, and medical interventions for additional support.

The units allow hospital staff to care for babies born as early as 35 weeks gestation who may need breathing support, IV therapy and other types of specialized care.
