3 councillors to host open house

Three councillors are getting ready to host their second quarterly open house.

Keith McGrath says it’s open to the community.

“To give the citizens a chance to come in and meet us, voice some of their concerns,” he said.

“Certainly there’s no voting that takes place or anything like that, but certainly it’s good to hear from the citizens that we represent.”

He says to comply with the Municipal Government Act, all councillors can’t be there.

Lance Busseries and Sheldon Germain are the other two that will be in attendance.

McGrath says people are the best assets.

“They can come and talk about anything.  Do we give many clear direction? No. Do we let them know where we stand on certain issues? Absolutely” he adds, “I think it’s about representing the citizens and giving them the chance to have a one-on-one with the councillors.”

He says it’s important to have open communication with the community.

“It’s all about letting yourself be accountable to the people. No just at election time, but open up your doors and let people come see you. I think it’s all about accessibility to the governing body,” he said.

This is their second open house – the last one was done over a span of two days, which McGrath says about 100 people showed up for.

It’s June 19th from 5-8 pm in the council office on the third floor in the municipal building on Franklin Avenue.
