300 scientists want PM to reject report that 'ok's' Northern Gateway

300 scientists want the Prime Minister to turn down a report that ‘ok’s’ approving Enbridge’s proposed Northern Gateway pipeline.

The scientists say the joint review federal panel report that recommends green-lighting the project is flawed,

One of the scientists, UBC Associate professor Kai Chan says he and his colleagues found many of the reports findings were based on biased evidence.

“We found that there are several things that were just kind if glaring errors, that could not be acceptable in a report of this magnitude for this purpose of serving for the basis of this federal decision,” said Chan.

The scientists want the concerns looked at before Ottawa makes a decision on the $6.5-billion project that would connect the oilsands to the BC coast.

Chan says the report highlights the benefits and down plays the risks.

“We’re asking for the Prime Minister to start again, or to start where the report leaves off, to revise it, to fix it, in the way that it’s flawed.”

The scientists say the panel didn’t look at how the oilsands expansion would up emissions or the risk of a spill on marine life.

A new Bloomberg poll finds 34% of British Columbians wants to can the 1,200 kilometer pipeline.

It finds 29% approve it and 33% want more review on the line that would connect the oilsands to the BC coast.
