17,000 people took in Canada Day events

According to the RMWB thousands of people took part in the Canada Day festivities.

It also announced the winners of the parade float contest.

Brignall Equipment Solutions won the commercial category; the Filipino Canadian Association of Fort McMurray was deemed the best float by a Social / Service Organization; the best Youth Group float belonged to the Fort McMurray Minor Baseball Association and the Fort McMurray Fire Department received an honourable mention.

“I’m proud of all the floats that took part in the Canada Day Parade. It was a great showcase of our wonderful community and country,” said Christina Baker, coordinator in a news release. “Thank you to all the people and organizations that helped make the celebrations a success.”

Over 40 volunteers helped over the two day Canada Day event.  An estimated combined 17,000 people attended the fireworks, family activities, and the parade.
