UPDATE: ACAC men's basketball championship day 1 results

The opening day of the ACAC men’s basketball championship being held at Keyano featured  four games with all eight teams in action.

Here is a rundown of the day’s scores:

Game 1 – Lethbridge  Kodiaks 79 – Lakeland College Rustler 63

The opening game of the championship featured lots of offensive boards, 20 in total, 14 of those to the winning Kodiaks side.

Rustlers regular season top scorers Stephen Jones and Josh Magpantay combined were held to just one point in the opening 20 minutes.

Leading the way for the Kodaiks was the Player of the game Chaz Johnson with 23 points.

Jordan Kelly was the Rustlers Player of the Game with 18 points.

 

Game 2 – Olds Broncos 104 – NAIT Ooks 97

ACAC Rookie of the Year Kaleel Faiz of the Olds Broncos went down with an injury after scoring his 24th point leaving the court with a lead his team would not relinquish.

Faiz would return to score 41 points in total acting as the offensive leader for his Broncos.

Ooks Guard Alvin Parker downed 44 points, leading both teams.

The Ooks were the fourth ranked team in the nation, a big upset as the Olds Broncos will play for an opportunity to win gold.

Game 3 – Medicine Hat Rattlers 84 – Concordia Thunder 74

Medicine Hat out rebounded Concordia by a 42-38 margin on their way to victory.

Rattlers forward Michael Farion led both teams in scoring with 31 points.

Artez Shcarer led the Thunder with 21 points.

The Rattlers will take on Keyano College for a shot at the provincial title.

Game 4 – Keyano College 83 – Red Deer Kings 79

In front of over 500 fans at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre the hometown Huskies were propped up by guard Christopher Joseph and his team leading 27 points.

Forward Brady McKay led on the glass picking up 18 rebounds, evenly split between the offensive and defensive sides of the court.

Matthew Matear led Red Deer with 15 points.

The Huskies will play the Medicine Hat Rattlers for a shot at the gold medal game.

DAY 2 SCHEDULE:

Game 5 – 1:00 p.m. – Lakeland vs NAIT

Game 6 – 3:00 p.m. – Concordia vs Red Deer

Game 7 – 6:00 p.m. – Lethbridge vs Olds

Game 8 – 8:00 p.m. – Medicine Hat vs Keyano
