Five thermal oil sands projects are being delayed by the province’s new energy regulator.
The AER says it’s asking for three-dimensional seismic imaging maps to be done of a large part of land north of town before it makes a final ruling.
That’s affecting in situ projects from Ivanhoe, SilverWillow, Southern Pacific Resource Corporation, Value Creation Inc., and Grizzly Oil Sands, according to the Calgary Herald.
The AER says that it needs that extra info before it can make a final call as to whether the projects can be done safely.
But some of the companies say the delay will increase their costs.
