AER: New rules to cut possible effects of industry's gas emissions

Rules are getting tighter to reduce the possible harmful effects of industry’s gas emissions.

Alberta’s Energy Regulator says on June 16th new guidelines will apply to practices such as flaring, venting, and burning off gas.

It says the changes will make sure energy resources are developing safe and environmentally responsible.

This is partly the product of hearings into odours from oilsands processing in northwestern Alberta.

The regulator’s also accepted most recommendations that came last month in a report after complaints from Peace River residents of gassy smells coming from Baytex Energy’s operations.
