The Fort McMurray Airport Authority (FMAA) is supporting the 2803 Fort McMurray Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps to the tune of $5,000.

The donation will support the Army Cadets’ upcoming trip to Europe to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day on May. 8, 2015.

VE Day marked the end of World War II.

Army Cadets from Fort McMurray will join Canadian teachers, students, other cadets and verterans on an educational tour which will remember the sacrifices made by Canadian troops and their allies during the Second World War.

During the trip the cadets will learn about historic sites and battlefields linked to Canada’s heritage, will gain a deeper understanding of the role that Canada played in World Wars I and II, and will discover how to become better young leaders and Canadians.

The funding came from the FMAA’s Community Investment Program, which provides long-term support to local not profit organizations.

Core focuses of the program are youth, aviation education and heritage, and the Canadian military.
