The Fort McMurray International Airport is celebrating its first birthday.

A year after opening the new terminal, officials will put on their party hats with jet-setters. The public is invited to the airport on Tuesday, June 9.  There’s a chance to win free flights along with other prize packages.

Since opening last year, the airport has become one of the fastest growing in Canada, with a growth rate of 9.5 per cent in 2014. It handled 1,308,416 commercial and charter passengers in 2014. That’s an increase from the 1,195,437 passengers who checked in during 2013.

It also has plans for expansion that include extending the main runway, adding two gates and expanding the terminal building.

Country 93.3 and Rock 97.9 will be live on location.
