Alberta Medical Association demands stable funding

Relying too much on the resource sector is hurting the province’s healthcare system, according to the president of the Alberta Medical Association.

Dr. Richard Johnston wrote a year-end letter to physicians, arguing the government needs to make sure there’s stable funding for healthcare.

“I am not sure the public is aware of how much of the current problems are related to poor planning and how poor planning, at least partly, is related to unpredictable levels of funding. This is true in every province, but especially Alberta where government is so dependent on resource revenues,” writes Johnston.

Johnston suggests bringing back health premiums.
