Alberta named 21st best place for oil and gas industry

Alberta’s reputation is getting better, but energy executives around the world still say Oklahoma is the best place to explore for oil and gas.

The Fraser Institute released its 6th annual global petroleum survey.

Alberta ranked 21st out of 147 places this year; it was 51st last year.

Study authour Gerry Angevine says the rollback of royalty hikes was a big help.

“We’re almost back where we were before the new royalty framework was announced,” he said. “Manitoba and Saskatchewan are not far apart, but we’re now not far below them. But yes, we have a bit of catching up to do.”

Manitoba ranked 5th in the world.
