Albertans asked to conserve energy over long weekend

Albertans are being asked to voluntarily conserve energy over the long weekend.

The Alberta Electric System Operator says forecasted high temperatures, a lack of wind and a planned outage on the British Columbia intertie is preventing the province from being able to import power through its largest interconnection.

AESO says the temeperatures will lead to a high electricity consumption and therefore it’ll be in demand.

It suggests turning off lights and appliances, limiting air conditioning, closing blinds during the hottest part of the day and running major appliances such as washers after peak hours or about 7PM.
