MLA Mike Allen held a telephone town hall yesterday evening to get citizens’ input on how to not only twin highway 63 more quickly, but also how to make the road safer.
Allen explains that the delays in the project were not because of cost, but instead how to deliver the project as quickly as possible considering the conditions. He pointed out that muskeg presents challenges when it comes to building infrastructure.
He also heard concerns about a lack of law enforcement on the road. He noted out that the province has increased police presence in terms of traffic blitzes. Other concerns involved road maintenance.
The teleconference also included opinion polls, which included 63 percent of the participants supporting the idea of deferring other provincially-funded infrastructure to get the highway twinned faster.
At one point, almost 3000 people participated in the call.
