Provincial arbitration panel rules against Suncor's random drug testing

An Arbitration Panel has ruled Suncor’s random drug testing violates its workers’ rights to privacy, respect, and dignity at work.

The Unifor Local union filed a grievance on behalf of Suncor employees in 2012, and the arbitration panel heard the case last year.

Unifor says it will work with Suncor to keep workplace safe through education and prevention, not “invasive medical procedures.”

The union also says that there’s no evidence the workplace is safer when there’s random drug testing.
