Baird presses US to end "state of limbo" caused by pending decision on Keystone XL

Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird wasn’t pulling punches in his speech about the Keystone XL pipeline to the US Chamber of Commerce yesterday.

Baird told them “the time for Keystone is now”, and that even if the project isn’t approved, that Canada “can’t continue in this state of limbo.”

In response, US Secretary of State John Kerry says his government won’t be rushed into deciding on the Keystone.

He says the State Department still needs to wrap up a recent study of the pipeline.

It’s expected US President Barack Obama will make the final call later this year.

The southern section of the 1200 mile pipeline is built, with the northern section to Alberta still awaiting a decision.
