Fort McMurray’s downtown makeover is starting to take shape.
Mayor Melissa Blake announced the first catalyst projects the municipality plans on building in the lower townsite at Macdonald Island’s Canada Day celebrations.
They’re called “catalyst projects” because the city hopes they will help spur private development.
They include a downtown arena, a civic centre and new city hall, a hotel and convention centre, and new parks along the Snye and Clearwater.
Blake says construction will start within 12 months, with the new Franklin Square community gathering space done next year.
