UPDATE: Brush fire north of Parsons now under control

Regional Emergency Services remains on the scene of a brush fire north of town near the top of the Parsons Creek interchange. As of 8 p.m. the fire was declared under control.

Corporal George Cameron with Wood Buffalo RCMP said the fire poses no threat to any homes or businesses.

He said it was lucky the wind had been blowing “in the right direction” sending smoke closer to the highway than to town.

There were reportsĀ Alberta Wildfire had been called in to help battle the brush fire. People posting on Facebook and Twitter said the fire appeared closest to Fireweed Crescent in Timberlea.

Cameron said that with the fire under control crews will continue to battle hot spots and stay on scene until it is out completely. Again, crews are not worried about the fire affecting homes or businesses.

There are no evacuation notices at this time, according to Cameron. He said there is no word yet on what may have caused the fire.

You’re still being asked to keep away from the area and let fire crews do their work to battle the blaze.

If you see brush or wild fires in the region, report them by calling 310-FIRE.
