Budget freezes taxes, promises surplus in 1 year

The provincial government will not raise taxes this year.
Finance Minister Ron Liepert revealed the 2012 budget today, with a deficit of just under 900 million dollars.
But he projects a surplus of almost a billion dollars next year and more than 5 billion the year after that.
Today’s budget increases health and education funding and transfers an extra 2 billion dollars to municipalities.
It also includes 11 million dollars for oilsands environmental monitoring.
