Canada adds 30,000 new jobs in January

A new Statistics Canada report says the country gained almost 30,000 jobs last month.

As well, the national unemployment rate dropped point-two percent from last December, to 7 percent.

StatsCan says there was an increase in full time work, along with 15,000 more jobs in transportation and warehousing.

Those numbers helped overcome the 25,000 jobs lost in the business sector, as well as 16,000 fewer working in public administration.

Among the provinces, Alberta’s unemployment rate of 4.6 percent is second-lowest, behind Saskatchewan at 4.3%.

Newfoundland has the highest rate of unemployment, at 12%.
