Canada has 2-5 year window to get oil to Asia: report

A new report says Canada’s energy industry will be left behind on the global stage if it can’t get oil to the pacific rim.

The University of Calgary’s Public Policy School says most of the demand for heavy oil from Alberta is in Southeast Asia, but the opportunity won’t be there for long.

It says China, Japan, and Korea could take as much oil as Alberta could produce.

But heavy oil from Saudi Arabia and Mexico is also available.

The report suggests Canada has a two-to-five year window to take advantage of the opportunity.
