Canada Post is adding a five dollar surcharge to every package being delivered to Fort McMurray.
The postal service says the new charge will come into effect on Monday.
It says it’s applying what it calls the “service area adjustment” to areas it has identified as having a particularly high cost to serve.
But Fort McMurray is the only place in the country that it names as getting the surcharge applied.
The postal service has been repeatedly criticized for poor service in the region after it contracted out parcel delivery to a third party last year.
