Canada's oil-by-rail reaches all time high

The country’s hit a record high when it comes to oil-by-rail exports.

The National Energy Board says in the first three months of the year, just over 160,000 barrels per day were shipped on train.

Compared to last year, that’s a more than 50 percent hike.

It’s a 7% jump from last year’s fourth quarter to this year’s first.

A lack of pipelines or their approvals are pushing more companies to look into the rail option.

TransCanada recently said it’s in talks with its customers about possibly shipping crude oil to the US by rail.
