Canadian Mint stops producing the penny

Soon, a thought might cost a little more than a penny.

On Saturday the Canadian Mint stopped its production of the copper penny, and today, it is asking businesses to start turning them back in.

From here on out, businesses will round up or down to the nearest 5 cent on cash transactions.

The Mint says that by not making them anymore it will save taxpayers $11-million a year.
