Chelsea Clinton's New Job: Special Correspondent For NBC

She’s made headlines before as the daughter of a former U.S. president – and as a glowing newlywed.

But now Chelsea Clinton will sit on the other side of the news desk.

The daughter of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton will begin working as a fulltime special correspondent for NBC News on Monday, The New York Times reports. Clinton, 31, will work on features segments for the “Making a Difference” series, which showcases people helping out their communities through volunteer work.

“I hope telling stories though ‘Making a Difference’ – as in my academic work and nonprofit work – with help me to live my grandmother’s adage of ‘Life is not about what happens to you, but about what you do with what happens to you,’ ” Clinton said in a statement.

Steve Capus, president of NBC News, said he first met with the former First Daughter over the summer when “she was kicking around what she wanted to do next.”

Capus said Clinton was inspired by the people she met on the campaign trail when her mother was running for president in 2008. “It’s not about Chelsea Clinton saying, ‘Here I am. I want to be a TV star,’ ” he said.

On her Facebook page, Clinton said she’ll be donating the majority of her earnings to the Clinton Foundation and the George Washington Hospital in honor of her late grandmother.

“What inspires me most are people who imagine and implement solutions to challenges in their own lives, in their communities, in our country and around the world,” she said. “I am excited to work with NBC News to continue to highlight stories of organizations and individuals who make their communities and our world healthier, more just and more humane.”
