City plans to connect the whole city to trail and path network

There are some big plans and upgrades for paths and trails around the city.

In Thickwood and Timberlea in the next 2 years it wants to widen the sidewalk on Thickwood Boulevard to a 3 metre paved trail, and develop a trail from Prospect Drive to the TaigaNova Industrial Park.

In the next 3-5 years it wants to complete connections from Paquette and Prospect Drives to Confed, around Millenium Drive and improve Silin Forest Trail and connect it to Thickwood Boulevard.

It says it eventually wants to add a bridge over the Birchwood Trails.

It’s considering new paths across the city, including one from Waterways to the new Saline Creek development, one connecting Beacon Hill to Grayling Terrace, and another along Parent Drive to Airport Road.

Downtown, it’s considering upgrades to the King Street underpass, and upgrading the trail around Abasand and down the hill.

It held engagement sessions Wednesday and Thursday to get community feedback on the proposal it plans to submit to council.
