"Clearwater Consortium" among 4 downtown arena proponents

Over the coming days, MyMcMurray is profiling and publicizing the four shortlisted companies that the Municipality has selected for the downtown arena project. Their responses to a Request for Expressions of Interest were tabled as part of the provincial hearing on expropriation.

A group of 7 companies calling itself the “Clearwater Consortium” is among the contenders to build Fort McMurray’s downtown arena.

The master developers would be Concert Properties and Shelter Canadian, while Bird Construction would build the venue.

Kasian would be the architect, while Populous would be the designer – it designed the new Yankee Stadium in New York.

Planning Alliance is on as a consultant – it helped create the city’s Lower Townsite redevelopment plan.

Finally, Global Spectrum would manage the facility – it runs major junior hockey rinks in London and Windsor, Ontario.

It says it would build a multi-storey hotel and office building next to the arena – but it originally wanted to put the project on the Snye.

The city has since identified the block at Franklin and Morrison as the site for the rink.

The group also says it would require government support to build the arena through a public-private partnership, but it could self-finance the office tower.
