CN to try natural gas trains in oil sands

Canadian National Railway says it’s testing two natural gas-fired trains in the oilsands.

The locomotives are being retrofitted from diesel power to natural gas, and will run the 480 kilometre route between Edmonton and Fort McMurray.

Its fuelling and maintenance will happen in Edmonton, where it’ll send oilsands crude to be processed.

The company that’s helping convert the trains says it’ll cut carbon emissions by 30 percent and nitrogen oxide emissions by 70 percent.
