Company to try again for "environmentally friendly" project

E-T Energy says it’s going to re-file its application for a new oil sands project near Fort McMurray.

The project is designed to use a new electrical heating process to recover bitumen that’s too deep for mining, but too shallow for steam-assisted gravity drainage – it calls the system “environmentally friendly.”

Its first application was rejected by the Energy Resources Conservation Board because it hadn’t proven the system could sustain the production rates it was aiming for.

But the company says it’s still finishing a crucial field test that will answer those questions either this year or early next.
