Council has agreed to sell three lots in the former Abrams land to two church groups and a non-profit.

TThe Sanatan Mandir Cultural Society – a Hindu Group and The Redeemed Christian Church of God – a Nigerian denomination – will move in along with the Fort McMurray Ashlar Building Club, which says it will rent to local non-profits.

The city has officially changed the name of the site from Abrams to Abraham’s land.

The city’s Director of Land Administration Marcel Ulliac says this will actually lessen traffic in the area.

“It’s not anticipated that there would be any more traffic generated by having the three lots subdivided, because the original plan would have accommodated a far greater intense development, thus generating a lot more traffic,” he said.

CAO Glen Laubenstein also says parking plans in the new development will be flexible.

“It’s my understanding that that is one of the things that they’ll be working on is a layout so that the parking does get interactive and not restrictive, and hopefully it’ll be able to offset events as well,” he said.

The city can buy back the land if buildings aren’t started in three years and finished in five.
