Council could change bylaw on events

All the development permit drama in Fort McMurray could finally come to an end next month.
The municipality says council will debate allowing the city to issue special events permits on private land, so development permits won’t be required for events.
Right now, those permits can only be issued on public land.
That’s why the Wood Buffalo Country Fair had to be cancelled at Dunvegan Gardens this year, when the city suddenly decided to enforce requirements for development permits, which Dunvegan can’t get.
The change to the bylaw could pass by the middle of next month.
It’s given a one-time permit to the Boys and Girls’ club Chateau Boo fundraiser already, because the law will likely be changed before that event happens.
