Council gives Chateau Boo the go

Chateau Boo has gotten the green light from council.

Last night it voted to change the bylaw on Dunvegan Gardens so the event could happen this year.

Mayor Melissa Blake says the next step will be to create a consistent policy for the whole city.

“The door really needs to be open wide in terms of what we’re trying to cover off so that we don’t have the animosity that gets created through special things that don’t comply with existing legislation.”

Blake says, “I think that when you put together the grand by law use, it’s going to have to factor in all of the right things in any situation. So if it’s somebody having a wedding in a backyard it might be fine if it’s 20 people, if it becomes 200 people in a persons backyard, how does that affect the neighborhood, traffic, things like that.”

The city says it could take a year to come up with that new policy.

Blake says she understands why some Draper-area residents have been upset about Dunvegan.

“I think that anytime we go through massive change in a persons proximity to where they’re living there’s always going to be an emotional response because they take it, because its in the neighborhood, quite personally, and you can’t fault them for that.”
